Wire EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) is a non-contact machining method that uses a thin, electrically charged wire to cut intricate shapes in metal with extreme precision. It’s ideal for creating fine features, tight inside radii, and ultra-precise parts without introducing mechanical stress or burrs—especially in hardened or exotic materials.
Die Technology is a trusted leader in ultra-precision wire EDM machining services, offering unmatched accuracy, surface finish, and repeatability. With over one million hours of EDM experience, we support OEMs in medical, energy, defense, electronics, and automation industries with mission-critical components and tooling. Our investment in autonomous, high-performance EDM systems allows for efficient production of even the most complex parts—ideal for tight-tolerance dies, micro components, and complex form tooling.
Wire EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) is a method of removing metal using a controlled electrical discharge between a small-diameter wire and the workpiece. The wire never touches the part; instead, it erodes the material with thousands of sparks, allowing for precise, burr-free cuts with minimal thermal distortion. Think of it like a CNC-guided spark that slices through metal—without any mechanical force.
This process is especially useful for materials that are difficult or impossible to machine with traditional tools, such as carbide, titanium, and hardened steels. With wire EDM, manufacturers can achieve precise internal geometries, sharp corners, and thin walls without tool wear or deformation.
In modern manufacturing, wire EDM is indispensable for high-precision dies, surgical tooling, micro-electronics, and any application where tolerances, edge quality, and accuracy cannot be compromised.
Wire EDM refers to a machine or machining process in which a thin wire is used as an electrode to cut through a metallic workpiece. The XY table of the machine moves around a stationary wire. Wire EDM can be used to cut a shaped punch followed by a matching die opening into a die plate, most often for a blanking die or progressive die.
Wire EDM has always been a core expertise of Die Technology Inc. For 35 years, Die Technology has utilized only the most accurate and most reliable wire EDM available.
